SYNOPSIS

Bluefin tuna are a high-priced commodity. The big money fish is also a magnet for shady characters and black market criminals. Akeem is an innocent 12-year-old from Tunisia, who knows the Mediterranean Sea like an old salt. His love of fishing and bringing food back to his village fills him with pride.

On what seemed to be a typical day on the water searching for dinner to catch, the boy hooks and boats the most massive tuna he’s ever seen. His boat, a wooden dhow named The Thon Fille, almost sinks under the weight of the great fish but Akeem manages to avoid hungry sharks and the elements. Yet, when he crosses paths with an illegal Libyan fishing vessel, the drama ensues.

The purpose of this book is to expose the very real illegal tuna fishing boats through a fictional story that weaves its way around the Mediterranean from Africa to Europe.

This book held my attention from start to finish. I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. I think it would make a great book for students.
